USACE Taylor Dental Clinic Renovation, US Army Medical Command
Fort Campbell, Kentucky
This $8.6 million project provides site and structural improvements to support the renovation of the existing 14,606 square foot Taylor Dental Clinic along with a 2,000-sft building addition. The 1-story building consists of steel roof framing with masonry load bearing shear walls. An 8,000-sft transitional trailer to support the renovation/addition was also provided. This project was designed toward LEED Certification in pursuit of a NC version 3.0 Silver rating. American Structurepoint provided engineering services for the renovation, addition, and transition trailer for this dental clinic, including the associated grading, sidewalks, and utility services.
We also examined the inclusion of low-impact design (LID) techniques, such as bio-retention, rain gardens, and pervious pavements, for this particular site. Structural engineering services include structural design of the proposed 2,000-sft building addition, design of Anti-Terrorism Force Protection (ATFP) framing for replacement windows in the perimeter walls of the existing building, and design of minor framing and structure repair and reinforcement details for proposed modifications of the existing building. American Structurepoint's Structural Engineering Group also performed a seismic analysis in compliance with ASCE 31-03–“Seismic Evaluation of Existing buildings,” which supersedes the FEMA code on the one story Dental Clinic at Ft. Campbell US Army Base. This seismic analysis included a Tier 1 analysis as prescribed by ASCE 31 and as a result of the analysis the building was found to comply with the criteria of the analysis.
