I-94 Rehabilitation Design-Build

Lake and Porter Counties, Indiana

This fast-tracked, $7 million project is located along one of the busiest interstate highways in Indiana and involved a pavement restoration of the existing facility while developing a traffic management strategy to ensure the utmost safety and mobility through the construction zone. The project included milling and asphalt overlay for 3.1 miles of a 6-lane interstate facility plus shoulders and six interchange ramps at the junction with SR 249. Targeted full-depth patching was used throughout the corridor to directly address the most problematic areas without resorting to full replacement throughout the corridor. American Structurepoint worked directly with INDOT under the ‘Open Roads’ program to critically assess the purpose and needs of the project and target improvements towards the critical pavement restoration, rather than unessential improvements that would greatly increase costs. Through this process, construction cost savings were estimated at $2.2 million.
