Hively Avenue Reconstruction
Elkhart, Indiana
Started in March 2009, this 1.7-mile project that begins 400 feet east of Nappanee Road and ends at Benham Avenue included the construction of new storm sewer, water main, and center turn lane for Hively Avenue. The centerpieces of the project were the installation of two roundabouts—one at Hively Avenue and 17th Street and the other at Hively Avenue and Oakland Avenue. New signal equipment was installed at Hively Avenue and Benham Avenue, as well as three miles of new sidewalk throughout the project. The project had a completion date of November 2010 but was completed in November 2009. Utility coordination was necessary for the roundabout installation. (Contract No. R-29455)
