Fort Wayne Lakeside Sewer Separation
Fort Wayne, IN
American Structurepoint provided design services, bidding assistance, and services during construction for a sewer separation project to minimize neighborhood drainage complaints and reduce the volume of flow directed to the Morton Street Pump Station. The Lakeside Park ponds are located near Lake Avenue in downtown Fort Wayne. In terms of stormwater management, the surrounding area is currently served by a combined sewer system that flows to the Morton Street Pump Station. During wet weather events, this station cannot keep up with the increased flow and discharges to the outfall structure at the Maumee River. To reduce flows to the Morton Street Pump Station that cause CSOs during a typical year, the existing combined sewers will be separated. The Lakeside Park ponds will serve as a stormwater discharge location to provide the necessary storage during specific design storm events.
A lift station will be provided that is sized to pump the ponds down to a predetermined level in the ponds within a 24-hour period. Stormwater treatment will be provided at the discharge locations to the ponds to minimize pollutants from entering the ponds. This project required modeling of the separated area using XP SWMM to verify the proposed project would meet LTCP objectives.
