Downtown Smart Street Initiative
South Bend, Indiana
American Structurepoint's landscape architects are integrating a series of urban design amenities along two of the major corridors in the downtown area of South Bend. As a component of the "Smart Streets Initiative," a palette of materials, plantings, and pedestrian amenities are being used to create linear green spaces within downtown that are not only visually stunning, but functional for all users. Our firm was selected to establish the palette of materials and amenities for the streetscape design project, including decorative pavers, lighting, bollards, custom pavement markings, wayfinding signage, pedestrian furniture, and plantings. To accompany this phase of the project, a Streetscape Pattern book was created that documented the materials, installation methods, and manufacturers of all streetscape amenities. The pattern book will allow the City of South Bend to incorporate applicable amenities throughout their downtown area.
