Indianapolis, Indiana – American Structurepoint announces that Clara Almeter has been named the inaugural recipient of the 2026 Indiana Section of the American Water Works Association (INAWWA) Young Professional Excellence Award. The award recognizes emerging leaders who demonstrate outstanding contributions, technical achievement, and service in the water industry. Almeter was honored at the INAWWA Annual Conference in Indianapolis during the awards luncheon on Tuesday, March 24.
As a staff engineer, Almeter has distinguished herself through proactive leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous learning. She actively seeks opportunities to grow her technical expertise while supporting her team, volunteering for complex projects, and fostering knowledge-sharing across the Utility Infrastructure Group.
She leads professional development efforts, organizing and presenting lunch-and-learn sessions on topics like advanced piping solutions and utility coordination best practices, strengthening team capabilities and promoting a culture of collaboration.
On the Blue Line project in Indianapolis, Almeter serves as lead designer for sanitary sewer relocations, navigating multiple urban utility challenges. The Blue Line project extends the IndyGo bus rapid transit east-west corridor by approximately 24 miles and requires a multitude of sanitary sewer relocations along the route. Almeter’s innovative design solutions have improved system reliability, reduced lifecycle costs, and avoided the need for more complex infrastructure, demonstrating her dedication to sustainable, resilient engineering practices.
“Clara’s recognition as the inaugural recipient of this award speaks to her leadership, technical ability, and dedication to the industry,” said American Structurepoint President Cash Canfield. “She represents the future of our profession, and we’re proud to have her on our team.”
She is also actively involved in advancing the profession, serving in leadership roles on the INAWWA/Indiana Water Environment Association (IWEA) Young Professionals Committee and mentoring emerging engineers. Her contributions extend into the community through volunteer efforts supporting sustainability, water access, and STEM engagement.
