Employee-driven philanthropic efforts by architecture and engineering consulting firm American Structurepoint have moved beyond the Thanksgiving and Christmas season into what is now a year-round practice.
For more than 25 years, American Structurepoint’s holiday service projects have supported the communities where its more than 275 employees live and work, by volunteering time and making donations to those in need. 2011 was the most successful season for the American Structurepoint Community Service Committee, with employees’ donations and a match from the company combined for a grand total of $30,445. Overall, the company contributed to 36 different projects supporting students, families, the hungry, the homeless, elderly, special needs individuals, veterans, and military families.
While the holiday service projects have had a significant impact on local communities, people are hungry and need shelter/aid all year. To better meet these needs and increase the effect of its efforts, American Structurepoint has transitioned to year-round giving. More than $4,000 in funds from 2011 was set aside to kick-start various service projects that will take place during 2012.
The company is endorsing a new campaign for 2012, led by its Community Service Committee, with a goal of raising $45,000 in donations for the year in honor of American Structurepoint’s 45th anniversary. Fifty-nine employees have contributed so far, pledging $15,128, which totals $30,256 when coupled with the company match. Volunteer efforts are also underway, including upcoming workdays with Fuller House, an organization that provides housing for low-income families, and a day trip with Hope Crisis Response Network to assist with rebuilding efforts in Henryville, Indiana.
American Structurepoint’s Community Service Committee helps organize the giving and volunteer efforts, with the project suggestions and support coming from the company’s employees, who are living the company’s mission statement firsthand: “We improve the quality of life for our communities and our people.”
“American Structurepoint strives to exceed expectations through our vision, creativity, enthusiasm, responsiveness, and dedication to quality,” says President and COO Willis R. Conner. “This company is filled with amazing people who do incredible things that make a big difference in our community. As a result, American Structurepoint is becoming known for the good things we do.”
