From major universities to local little leagues, American Structurepoint Architect Dan McCloskey has a lot of experience designing stadiums. You can see his work at the University of Louisville, University of Arkansas, Illinois State University, as well as baseball parks in Pendleton and Clarksville, Indiana. He never dreamed of designing a stadium in his own backyard, until he was presented with an opportunity to work on the new Kokomo Municipal Stadium.

“Being able to visit the site and know how this development will affect not only this city, but also affect the lives of people I grew up with is a great feeling,” said Dan.

It’s important that people feel comfortable with the project and embrace it as an amenity in their lives.

Dan was named the senior project architect and also provided design direction for the new stadium in downtown Kokomo. Born and raised in a small town just north of Kokomo, Dan is very integrated into the local community and is aware of the history that comes with it.

When it comes to his design, Dan says there are plenty of unique features about this new facility, including an “open concourse” where the spectator never leaves the field of play, concessions and hospitality areas with covered canopies for shade, and enclosed suites with dedicated terraced seating area outside. To Dan, the most important aspect of the design is making sure that it “fits” with the character of Kokomo.

“It’s important that people feel comfortable with the project and embrace it as an amenity in their lives,” said Dan.

Dan and his team at American Structurepoint submitted plans that have been reviewed by the city, the city council, and the mayor’s blue ribbon steering committee. American Structurepoint is providing complete design services for the project, as well as structural, civil, and survey services.
