Project Lead The Way Partnership Enriching IPS Students

CorporateOct 14, 2019

Three years ago, American Structurepoint made its single largest community service donation ever to expand educational opportunities to Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) students. In celebration of our company’s 50th anniversary, American Structurepoint invested $250,000 in Project Lead The Way (PLTW) programming for IPS. The partnership provided funding to allow all IPS schools to launch or expand PLTW’s transformative science, technology, engineering, and math earning experiences.

PLTW is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that delivers real-world, applied learning experiences to schools throughout the country. The programming empowers students to develop in-demand, transferrable skills and knowledge through pathways in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science.

The latest program report from PLTW contains these highlights about the difference our donation has made for IPS students.

Project Lead The Way Highlights
•3,200 Pre-K through grade 12 IPS students have received PLTW programming
•60+ teachers received PLTW collaborative professional development training
•14 new or expanded PLTW programs launched in the 2019-2020 school year
•20 new PLTW programs launched for students in grades in kindergarten through grade 5
•16 new PTL programs launched for students in grades 6 through 8
•In 2017, students from a PLTW class funded by American Structurepoint competed in a global robotics competition.

“These results are just what we envisioned three years ago when we made our initial investment to bring additional PLTW programming to IPS,” said American Structurepoint President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Conner. “We are so honored to help prepare Indianapolis’ children to become the critical thinkers, problem solvers and innovators of tomorrow.”
