Subterranean Warfare Complex — Muscatatuck Urban Training Center
The Subterranean Warfare Complex at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center provides realistic underground environments for soldiers training to operate in confined and unpredictable conditions. The 1,100-lft. facility incorporates narrow tunnels, command bunkers, ambush points, escape routes, and a complex labyrinth layout that simulates the challenges of subterranean combat. American Structurepoint provided design services for the Indiana National Guard facility through a design-build delivery approach.
The purpose-built training environment allows soldiers to prepare for missions involving restricted visibility, limited mobility, confined spaces, and complex underground circulation. Its network of tunnels, bunkers, ambush locations, escape routes, and interconnected passages creates a challenging setting for specialized tactical training.
The design-build approach supported close coordination among the owner, designer, and contractor, helping accelerate delivery and control costs. The completed facility became one of the nation’s early purpose-built environments dedicated to subterranean warfare training.
