Celebrating 10 Years in Texas

RM 3237 and RM 150 Roundabout

The project consists of replacing a T-Intersection with a more efficient and safer roundabout design at the intersection of RM 150 and RM 3237. American Structurepoint performed preliminary engineering and has developed engineering plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) to replace the intersection and save three heritage trees. Improvements also include drainage of the intersection and replacement of several culverts. Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) coordination and coordination with the TxDOT South Travis Area office was required for approval of the Water Pollution Abatement Plan. Utilities have been coordinated to be relocated before letting. American Structurepoint’s drainage engineers worked with the utility coordinator to avoid a conflict with an existing buried underground telecom line and the ditch flow line. The solution to riprap the channel at the utility to protect it in place saved the client $8,000 in utility relocation costs.

American Structurepoint prepared 3D animations of both roundabout and T-intersection alternatives to present to the public. This is a locally funded project on a TxDOT facility with a total construction cost estimated at $1.6 million. The project opened to traffic in spring 2022. Local property owners have been pleased with the project’s progress and report no issues with access during construction.

Success Story
The roundabout circle was located and designed to protect a historic tree the surrounding community wanted to preserve. Safety lighting was also provided that is Dark Sky-compliant to protect the community from light pollution that adhered to local ordinances.
