Celebrating 10 Years in Texas

I-69 Finish Line Project

I-69 Finish Line is the sixth and final section of the I-69 connection between Evansville and Indianapolis. Its completion is the culmination of more than 50 years of planning and progress and will result in improved access to jobs, education, and healthcare. American Structurepoint also served as the owner’s representative for the initial section of the new I-69 corridor, and our experts provided construction inspection and owner’s representative services for several other sections of this connection.

American Structurepoint was the lead engineering firm with the Walsh/Milestone Joint Venture Design-Build Team for the I-69, Section 6 Contract 5 Project. With a construction cost of $732 million, this was one of the largest construction projects ever procured by IFA and INDOT. The project included full reconstruction and conversion of the existing SR 37 to interstate standards from Fairview Road in Johnson County to I-465 in Indianapolis. It also included full reconstruction and improvements to I-465 between I-65 and I-70 in southern Marion County, expanding I-465 to 4 lanes in each direction. The project was the final leg of the 142-mile extension of I-69 from Evansville to Indianapolis that began in 2008. I-69 now provides safer, more efficient travel from Southern Indiana to Northeast Indiana and connects the state to the Canadian border, further solidifying Indiana’s reputation as the “Crossroads of America.

Contract 5 included 47 bridges, 59 retaining walls, four new I-69 interchanges, three interchange modifications, and 15 sound walls. American Structurepoint’s innovative design resulted in a $17 million reduction in construction costs and improved the interstate’s long-term durability and maintainability.

As part of this project, American Structurepoint also performed detailed design for 2,500 lft of a 90-inch diameter sanitary sewer and two 14-inch diameter sludge lines. These were part of the interceptor and sludge pipelines connecting two wastewater treatment plants owned by Citizens Energy Group in Indianapolis, Indiana. We coordinated with INDOT and Citizens Energy Group for approval of the alignment and construction materials and provided design services for the necessary improvements to the existing infrastructure to protect and/or move the utilities to construct this I-69, Section 6 project.
