Celebrating 10 Years in Texas
Goodwin Street Pedestrian and Drainage Improvements
Goodwin Street is a local collector with an average annual daily traffic volume of 2,440 vehicles per day and a posted speed of 30 mph. Despite its lack of sidewalks, Goodwin Street is a pedestrian corridor, notably used by children walking to and from the middle school. Pedestrian and drainage improvements are being made along Goodwin Street between Old US 41 and Matheson Avenue to improve the safety and performance of the roadway.
In addition to the pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, the project includes improvements to drainage with a new storm sewer system, a new bridge over Leitner Creek, new lighting, and landscaping. Another desire is for Goodwin Street to serve as an extension of Old US 41 Road in terms of multimodal accommodations and aesthetic treatments. Sidewalk is being provided on one side of the roadway and an 8-foot multi-use path is being provided on the other side to maximize mobility and minimize pedestrian and bicycle exposure to vehicles. The original box beam bridge over Leitner Creek is being replaced and widened to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists.
