Emerging Manufacturing Collaboration Center (EMC2)
American Structurepoint provided architecture and interior design services for a new hub in the 16 Tech Innovation District, supporting the long-term growth of the state’s manufacturing industry. The $7.5 million, 60,000 sft Emerging Manufacturing Collaboration Center (EMC2) provides collaboration space, training classrooms, and a testing center in which small- to medium-sized innovators and entrepreneurs develop and adopt smart manufacturing technologies. American Structurepoint provided concept programming, design development, construction documents, and construction administration to renovate an existing building at 16 Tech to house EMC2. Our design team developed conference rooms, a multipurpose training room, light manufacturing space, a break room, large restroom/locker areas, a loading dock zone, and space for the first tenant in the building’s manufacturing side.
We also designed space for additional EMC2 tenants. Retaining the existing character of the building emerged as a key interior design component. Existing wood columns and exposed roof deck were retained wherever possible. Metal panel was added to the portion of the building’s exterior, and a new roof was added above the wood roof deck. New orange canopies incorporate the EMC2 logo color.
