City of Gary Sanitary District Chase Pump Station Force Main Replacement
The Gary Sanitary District (GSD) determined that the systematic replacement of the existing 42-inch prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) would be the best course of action to ensure the uninterrupted functionality of the 27th and Chase Pump Station, to mitigate risks associated with failure of the existing force main, and to provide the pumping capacity required to meet their long term control plan (LTCP) goals. In its entirety, the existing 27th and Chase force main is approximately 5,940 feet long.
The force main was replaced in phases as funding became available, the majority of which was provided by US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Section 219 General Environmental Infrastructure grant funding. American Structurepoint prepared a preliminary engineering report (PER) that evaluated force main materials, diameters, and alignments and provided estimated construction costs. Our engineers then prepared the project design consisting of USACE coordination, survey, and preparation of detailed force main replacement plan and profile sheets, technical specifications, quantities, and cost estimate.
