Chesterton Police Station

American Structurepoint partnered with the Chesterton Police Department from predesign through final design to create a new two-story police station that enhances safety, functionality, and operational efficiency. The 10,800-square-foot facility was designed to support the department's evolving needs while accommodating a tight budget and accelerated schedule. Key features include ballistic-protected public areas, controlled access points, secure processing and evidence spaces, training facilities, administrative offices, and dedicated staff wellness amenities. The result is a modern public safety facility that improves daily operations while providing a secure environment for officers, staff, and the community.

Following completion of a predesign and conceptual study, American Structurepoint continued its collaboration with the Chesterton Police Department to design a new headquarters tailored to the department's operational requirements. Located across from the existing station, the new facility provides approximately 10,800 square feet of space across two levels.

The design balances security, functionality, and efficiency. Public-facing areas feature ballistic-protected construction and controlled access systems, while secure operational spaces include a patrol room, training room, processing area, holding and interview rooms, armory, and sallyport. The second floor houses administrative offices, investigative workspaces, interview rooms, evidence storage, and employee fitness and locker room facilities.

American Structurepoint provided architectural, structural engineering, and construction administration services. The structural engineering team performed load analysis, structural design, construction document preparation, submittal reviews, and responses to contractor requests for information throughout construction. The approximately $5.6 million project delivers a modern, purpose-built public safety facility designed to support the department for years to come.
