Pittsburg Avenue Roundabouts Project in Stark County, Ohio Receives Outstanding Highway Project Award

ms consultants, American Structurepoint, and Stark County have earned an award from the Cuyahoga Valley Section of the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) for the Pittsburg Avenue Roundabouts project.

The project team received the 2024 Outstanding Highway Project Award for engineering excellence in the Under $5 Million Category. Two high-traffic intersections with traffic signals, Pittsburg Avenue at Shuffel Street and Pittsburg Avenue at Orion Street, were replaced with roundabouts to improve public safety and reduce traffic congestion. The roundabouts were designed to accommodate a large percentage of truck traffic in the area.

American Structurepoint and ms consultants collaborated on the project’s design and execution. American Structurepoint first started working with Stark County in 2014 to develop preliminary design plans and concepts for the roundabouts. The firm also assisted Stark County officials in preparing and completing a successful multi-million dollar grant application to help fund the project. ms consulting refined the preliminary design plans and provided final engineering plans for the roundabouts. American Structurepoint also prepared maintenance-of-traffic plans and designed a decorative retaining wall along the project area.
