Despite a struggling economy, Indianapolis-based American Structurepoint, Inc., celebrates 45 years of steady growth on November 6, 2011, with continued expansion ahead. A top-ranked, multi-disciplinary firm, American Structurepoint has earned a reputation for excellence in all aspects of the built environment—from bridges to buildings, from concept to completion.

Since its founding in 1966, American Structurepoint has evolved from a civil engineering business to include offerings in architecture, environmental design, information technology, and forensic engineering. Alongside that progression came the addition of offices throughout Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois, and a staff of over 300 experts across various disciplines, with more than 30 new hires since the beginning of this year.

Our hard work, creativity, and the way we drive results for our clients, they’re what got us here in the first place.

As the firm grew in size and capabilities, so did its reputation in the marketplace: Engineering News-Record consistently lists American Structurepoint as a national Top 500 Design Firm, with its rank rising higher each year (up from No. 462 in 2002 to No. 180 in 2011). Similarly, Midwest Construction magazine named American Structurepoint the top-performing Indiana design firm in 2010, reflecting its market position in key sectors, with an average revenue exceeding $50 million per year—a significant jump from just $3 million in 1987.

President and COO Rick Conner credits the company’s success to key investments in its people, processes, and marketplace strategies: “We’ve made key investments, made new hires, expanded our work, and our real-life initiatives that are driving us forward. I believe in our strategy, our company, and each and every one of our employees.” Among those investments is the recent hiring of David Mohler, vice president and practice leader in charge of Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science; Kyle St. Peter, the practice leader charged with advancing the Architecture Group; and Kirk Zecchini, regional services director of Federal programs. Their addition to the company’s leadership ranks are a strategic move, as Conner points out, “positioning us well for very solid growth.”

That growth, fueled by American Structurepoint’s reputation and financial strength, will hinge on advancements in diversification, market penetration, development of emerging markets and partnerships, among others. It will also build on a strong tradition of associate engagement, which has earned the company a recurring spot among the Best Places to Work in Indiana for the past three years. “Our hard work, creativity, and the way we drive results for our clients,” Conner concludes, “they’re what got us here in the first place.”
