The existing water filtration plant is a 24 million-gallons per day (MGD) capacity conventional treatment plant constructed in 1964. The physical structure and major water treatment equipment have reached the end of their design life expectancy, and the City struggles with maintaining obsolete equipment. Some major water treatment components and the infrastructure have continued to deteriorate, causing the operational reliability to become a major concern. The City has hired American Structurepoint and Black & Veatch to design a new membrane filtration plant to address these concerns. The new, 20-MGD, submerged membrane water treatment plant will have a hydraulic capacity of 30 MGD. The existing water treatment plant will be demolished after the new facility is operational.
