American Structurepoint has been selected to design the country’s first subterranean warfare complex at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center (MUTC) for the Indiana National Guard. The complex is 1,400 lft of constructed underground caverns designed for real world realism in order to prepare soldiers to fight in confined underground scenarios. The design simulates ambush locations, command bunkers, extremely confined tunnels, and escape tunnels all while using a unexpected labyrinth layout. The project uses a design/build delivery in order to minimize cost and expedite the schedule. The project has a $750,000 construction cost and is anticipated to be complete in May 2010.
The MUTC is working to become the premier Urban Training Center in the US and is a consortium of governmental, public and private entities that provide the most realistic training experience possible. Training that can be tailored to replicate both foreign and domestic scenarios and that can be utilized by various civilian and military organizations.
