This 3-span, stone-faced, earth-filled, concrete arch bridge was built in 1905 using a Melan design and is primarily used for pedestrians who attend the annual State Fair by train from Fishers station. Other than the replacement of the spandrel wall on the south side of the west span, most of the repairs consist of replacement and repair of the stone facia and railing. A hydraulic analysis was performed for this site to determine the need for riprap to protect the footings. Due to the use of federal funds, this project must meet the requirements of the Section 106 process. The end product will be a rehabilitated structure that honors the original design and construction while giving the City of Indianapolis and the Indiana Fair Commission a long-term, low-maintenance structure to serve them decades into the future.
