The design intent envisioned by Purdue University Calumet staff is a pedestrian crossing that grows organically from the landscape, crosses the road, and slopes back down into the landscape of the campus. The design encourages use with wide, sloping approach ramps directed toward the primary pedestrian generators. The bridge structure will be well lit, well ventilated, and covered to prevent ice and snow buildup, as well as to protect traffic below. Consideration is also given to creating stopping points along the route to allow users to rest, congregate, or meet others.
