American Structurepoint is providing utility, site/civil, environmental, and structural engineering, as well as overall system analysis for the upgrade to the water distribution system to the Butler, Pennsylvania VA Medical Center campus. The critical element to this project is to analyze, report, and recommend upgrades to the 200,000-gallon elevated steel water tank. In addition, the altitude valves, foundations, coatings, piping, and overall system was analyzed, and upgrades recommended in order to maintain adequate fire protection and drinking water to the 88-acre VA Campus. The project required a quick design schedule to meet tight funding timelines and included staff instruction on how to properly operate the water system. American Structurepoint provided additional suggested upgrades to the site drainage to ensure the new foundation of the tower does not degrade over time. This project will be in construction in early spring 2010.
