This $20 million project consists of realigning 16th Street and constructing a new roadway pavement between the existing Crawfordsville Road intersection with Georgetown Road and the existing intersection of 16th Street and Holt Road in front of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The intersections of 16th Street/Crawfordsville Road/ Main Street and realigned 16th Street/future Holt Road extension will be roundabouts. Polco Street will also be realigned. A comprehensive Traffic Impact Study was required to obtain consensus among the key stakeholders within the “Speed Zone” Redevelopment area in Speedway, Indiana. The study included 23 study intersections and numerous study scenarios. Traffic counting was an important part of this Traffic Impact Study. Multiple intersection turning movement counts and automated volume counts were collected, and samples of these traffic counts are attached.
