Choice of materials was paramount in this project. The use of carbon fiber-reinforced precast concrete panels not only allowed scheduling the building enclosure in midwinter but achieved a higher insulation value and lighter steel frame. To optimize flexibility for future tenant spaces, ribbon windows were used. Specialized floor slab areas were designed to accommodate sensitive medical equipment. In areas containing MRI equipment, floors were designed without steel reinforcement to avoid adverse magnetic field effects.
