This unique structure is the oldest surviving stone arch still in service in Indiana. Built in 1840 to carry the Wabash and Erie Canal and its towpath, the bridge has since served as a portion of the Carroll County transportation system. The 20’ diameter semicircular stone arch rests on a timber crib foundation. Over the years the stones have deteriorated, and the downstream end of the foundation has undermined. American Structurepoint was selected to stabilize and rehabilitate the structure and prepare plans for a park where this historic gem can be showcased.
