This safety study examined a 1.5-mile section of SR 229, a rural collector located near Marengo, Ohio. The study area was from SLM 9.06 to SLM 10.54 between Turkey Center Road (TR 208) and Hopkins Road (TR 205), and included the intersection of SR 229 and Bennington-Eastern Road (TR 206). The study area also included 1,000 feet in each direction along all intersecting roads (TR 205, TR 206, and TR 208). The 1997 Highway Safety Program ranked this highway as number 254, a high accident frequency and severity section. This location is a Category 1 location per ODOT's Policy 516-001P, dated October 17, 1996. The project included a traffic accident study, identification of countermeasures/improvement options to reduce accident frequency and severity, and cost-benefit analysis for each major option.
