This project consisted of final design to realign 0.48 mile of CR 50 and grade separate the roadway at the CSX railroad. Scope of work included bridge design, roadway geometric design, right-of-way plans, design of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, ADA ramps, drainage analysis and design, and traffic control. The new roadway spans the railroad with a 3-span, continuous composite steel beam bridge structure 182' in length. The storm drainage for the 10-acre project was analyzed to limit impacts on the residents after construction. The existing storm sewer system was analyzed and included in the development of an overall drainage plan for the area. This included open channel ditches to drain the proposed roadway realignment, as well as a closed drainage system that connected with the existing system. The project included the design of 53' of 6" water line and the replacement of an existing fire hydrant. The project also included design of three new intersections. Two of the intersections tie the relocated roadway back to the existing road and the other intersection is for a new street. As a part of the design, approach work and a bus loading area were redesigned for the local elementary school. Sidewalks were also added in front of the school to provide controlled pedestrian access in the future. Close coordination with elementary school officials was required during the design process so construction phasing could be coordinated around school closing.
