This project reconstructed and realigned 0.45 mile of CR 138 and grade separated the roadway at the Norfolk Southern railroad. The new roadway will span the railroad with a 3-span, composite steel beam bridge structure 182’ in length. The project also included design of the intersection of CR 138 with SR 4, and a 2,300' off-site storm sewer system. This required close coordination with the City of Marion to obtain concurrence and funding participation. Stormwater improvements also included performing a hydrology and hydraulics analysis of an extremely flat drainage area, which included on-site culverts and storm sewers. Extensive maintenance-of-traffic plans were developed to keep the intersection open to traffic during construction. The scope of work included roadway geometric design, bridge design, right-of-way plans, drainage analysis and design, traffic control, and pavement markings.
