This project involved investigation of water flow and sedimentation issues in the Whitewater Canal, a state historic site. Performed for IDNR, the investigation included causes and remedies of excessive sedimentation with the existing canal and potential sources of water supply to supplement canal flow. The project also included investigation and hydraulic analysis of the existing canal and intake structure, evaluation of a test well to analyze supply yield, and feasibility analysis of supplemental flow using vertical wells, infiltration galleries, and collector wells. Options identified for improving canal flow and reducing sedimentation included reconfiguration of the intake structure, improved canal geometry, and targeted dredging.
