This project involved rebuilding a rural road with a deficient geometry and replacing the box/arch drainage structure. The original option was to provide a temporary runaround while the drainage structure was being replaced. American Structurepoint presented Fairfield County with options to rebuild the road to three different design speeds. Hydraulic analysis on the culvert revealed the culvert was greatly oversized. American Structurepoint proposed placing a new culvert through the existing drainage structure and filling in the gap with flowable fill. This option, which was accepted, keeps the same road profile but allows the culvert to be replaced without having to build a temporary runaround, saving the County thousands of dollars in construction and right-of-way costs.
