WESTFIELD, IND.—Cool Creek Park Road (formerly known as East Access Road) will open to residents in Westfield with a celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony on November 1, 2011. This infrastructure improvement first became the vision of the city in October 2009 with Indianapolis-based A/E firm American Structurepoint, Inc., selected to design the new roadway, which consisted of creating a new north/south corridor connecting Greyhound Pass to 151st Street.
The new features of the roadway include a roundabout at 151st Street with decorative brickwork and landscaping, an improved entrance to Cool Creek Park, signal upgrades throughout Greyhound Pass and additional resurfacing on 151st Street. The city also added 4,000 feet of a new multi-use path connecting Cool Creek Park to 147th Street. This road will provide an alternative route for commuters during the future US 31 corridor construction projects.
"We are extremely excited about the opening of Cool Creek Park Road, the new roundabout and the many road enhancements along 151st street in Westfield,” said Mayor Andy Cook. “This construction project will help to mitigate traffic problems around the Village Park area, especially during the US 31 Freeway construction. I would like to thank American Structurepoint and E&B Paving for a great partnership and hard work on the construction of the project."
The City of Westfield built this project with the support of the many stakeholders within the corridor, including Menard’s, Marsh, Simon Properties, Walmart, Hamilton County Parks, Carmel Landing Apartments, and the Silverthorne subdivision. The project team also included construction by E&B Paving of Anderson and various subcontractors, including Gradex Excavating, Inc., and Midwestern Electric, both based in Indianapolis. The total construction cost for the roadway improvements were $2.3 million, funded by the City of Westfield.
