177th Street Realignment Project Culminates with Ribbon Cutting

The City of Hammond is proud to announce the completion of the realignment of 177th/179th Streets, which will be renamed Carlson Drive, through Oxbow Landing (formerly River Park Apartments), which include one travel lane in each direction with a landscaped center median.

Additional improvements for the $2.1 million project include new storm sewers, curb and gutters, lighting, sidewalks, a multi-use path, the installation of both a sanitary sewer and water main, as well as new loops, additional pedestrian indication and modification to the signal timing at the intersection of 177th Street and Kennedy Avenue by American Structurepoint, Inc., which the City hired for the road realignment, and landscaping by CONTEXT, LLC.

The City of Hammond will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the project’s completion. Speakers will include Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Executive Director Phil Taillon of the Hammond Department of Planning and Development, Councilman Mike Opinker, American Structurepoint Vice President Chris Murphy, and a representative speaking on behalf of past Councilman George W. Carlson.
