Please join us in congratulating Greg Henneke, your 2008 ACEC Consulting Engineer of the Year. On May 30, ACEC Indiana announced Greg Henneke as the 2008 ACEC Consulting Engineer of the Year, making this Greg’s second ACEC Indiana award. Engineer of the Year is a prestigious award to recognize an ACEC member who is not a current officer, and is awarded to someone who has made a significant contribution to the field of consulting engineering in Indiana. In 1996, when Greg was Director of Public Works for the City of Indianapolis, he was given the Public Service Award, which honors non-ACEC members affiliated with state or local government or a university for their outstanding contributions to the practice of engineering. “Greg is the first person ever to receive both awards,” noted Stephanie Morse, executive director of ACEC.
Greg was chosen by ACEC for this award due in large part to his leadership within the organization. He was first appointed to the board in 2001 and was elected as an officer two years later. As president of ACEC Indiana (2005-2006), he promoted diversity in ACEC and fostered a close relationship with state government. Greg’s 20+ years of experience with INDOT and Indianapolis Department of Public Works has made him uniquely qualified to see the big picture for ACEC; he knows first hand the challenges and issues facing public clients and has led the way in working for increases in infrastructure funding. He has an inimitable style that can bring people together for a single purpose. Greg has also been a strong advocate for building relationships in Washington, encouraging fellow engineers to participate in ACEC’s Capitol Hill visits.
When Greg receives his award at the annual ACEC Indiana awards luncheon on June 12, he will be among a select group—fewer than 25 previous winners from around the state—including our own Jim Wurster, who won the award in 1992. Rick Conner said it best. “It is one thing to be recognized, but to be recognized by your peers in the industry you serve is the pinnacle of success. We are all very proud of Greg and what he has done for American Structurepoint and the consulting industry.” Congratulations, Greg!
