This demolition of an existing, abandoned wastewater treatment plant on the shores of Lake Michigan involved developing a project manual and plans. The project included preparation of a Phase I/HTRW report and a Phase II report to document potential hazardous materials on site. Permits for construction in a floodway, Federal Consistency, and Rule 5-Erosion Control were prepared and obtained. The project was administered through USACE. Specifications were prepared using Unified Facilities Guide Specifications. The 60-acre tract just west of the mouth of Burns Ditch is part of the National Lakeshore. Now that the wastewater treatment plant is removed, the City of Portage and the National Park Service will develop a public park on this property.
